Thai Yoga Massage Glasgow Clinic

Thai Yoga Massage originated in India and arrived in Thailand at the same time as Buddhism around 3rd Century BC. The legendary founder was a contemporary of Buddha, a physician called Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha.

His teachings were passed down orally from teacher to student. Diagrams illustrating the knowledge were carved in stone and placed on the walls of Wat Pho, a temple in Bangkok, in 1832, since the original texts had been destroyed, when the Burmese sacked the then capital Ayutthia in 1767.

How Thai Yoga Massage Works
The theory behind thai massage it is that the practitioner works on 10 main energy (sen) lines. On these lines there are important acupressure points which can open up blockages, stimulate flow of energy and help restore general well-being. This is the same theory as Chinese acupuncture and acupressure, as well as the Japanese system of Shiatsu ( the energy lines in these systems are called meridians ).

Traditional Thai Massage is practised all across Thailand, where it is used to stay fit and healthy. The massage takes place on a mat on the floor, and the client remains fully clothed throughout. It incorporates much acupressure, stretching and breathing exercises, since it has a basis in Yoga teaching, and it incorporates many Yoga positions. The treatment lasts between one and two and a half hours, and tends to put the client into a deep state of relaxation, followed by a subtle boost of renewed energy.

Anyone can experience Thai Yoga Massage, as the practitioner tailors the treatment to the individual, taking the clients' current medical condition into consideration.

We are an expert Thai Massage Clinic in Glasgow, and our therapist are fully trained and qualified in practising Thai Massage.

Sports Massage Glasgow Clinic

Sports Massage Glasgow Clinic incorporates Swedish massage techniques but is used to stimulate muscles prior to an event/workout, or to stretch and relax the muscles after an event/workout.

Sports massage can be applied to any part of the body but is most commonly used on the larger muscle groups of the legs, arms, back and shoulders.

Whether you are using massage as part of your preparation for an event such as the Glasgow 10k, as an ongoing aid to your training or to support recovery from an injury our sports massage therapists should be able to help.

Who benefits from Sports Massage?

Anyone who is involved in sport or physical training activities at any level can benefit from a good sports massage. This is because massage helps keep muscles loose and joints flexible. This has the advantage of enhancing performance but also helps reduce the possibility of injury and the resulting interruption to training. If a muscular injury has occurred it may be helped to heal more quickly and effectively with a series of sports massages.

How it Works and where it can be useful

How Sports Massage works:

  • In the days prior to an event when the most intense training is finished, a relaxing massage should be a part of the regime to have muscles in their most relaxed state for that event. In the hour before the event massage can be used as part of the warm up to stimulate the muscles and prepare them for action.
  • Immediately after the event massage can be used to help remove lactic acid from the muscles and to relax them thus helping to speed recovery.
  • Massage is a major part of the healing process after a muscle injury. Massage increases blood supply to the injury and helps reduce the build up of unwanted scar tissue on the injury. This helps the athlete to get back to normal training as soon as possible.
  • By keeping muscles long and elastic massage helps keep joints as flexible as possible. This is a benefit in every sport. Athletes who do not stretch sufficiently after training will be familiar with tight muscles and lack of flexibility. Massage can help counter this.
  • Sports (or deep tissue) massage can also help with the treatment of general aches and pains brought on by muscle tension. A good example of this would be the shoulder and neck tension (and associated headaches) resulting from poor posture when working at a computer.

Indian Head Massage Glasgow

Originating - as the name suggests - in the East, Indian Head Massage works on both physical and mental states. A treatment focuses on the upper body, back, shoulders, neck, head and face - the areas most vulnerable to stress and tension, however should be beneficial for de-stressing the whole body.

What To Expect during an Indian Head Massage Treatment

By dispersing toxins from tense and knotted muscles, improving blood-circulation in previously congested muscles, and helping oxygenate the brain it may help with eye-strain, tinitus, jaw ache, sinusitis, stimulate lymphatic drainage and aid sleep. A treatment normally induces a state of calm, peace and tranquility and promotes high levels of alertness and concentration.

The client sits on a seat fully clothed for the duration of the treatment.

Hot Stone Massage Therapy Glasgow

Hot stone massage therapy is an effective form of massage using rounded volcanic balsalt stones. The heated stones can be used either by placing them on the clients body or incorporated within the massage. The heat from the stones helps to relax both the muscles and the client. The treatment can be tailored to the clients needs and may be used both for relaxation or for therapeutic reasons.

What to Expect During A Hot Stone Massage Treatment

A short consultation prior to the hot stone treatment ensures that any medical conditions are considered during the massage. The stones are heated to a comfortable temperature in a water bath and are removed from the hot water bath and placed on the body and hands or feets and allowed to warm the muscles prior to massaging that area. During the treatment the massage therapist will also use oil (e.g. grapeseed or sweet almond oil, and aromatherapy oils can also be included).
